Water Testing

Water is a synonym for 'life' as no life form can exist on earth without it. Although it is the most abundant natural resource, still the quantity of it which is fit for consumption is becoming scarce because of increase in the level of pollution. The quality of water clarifies whether it is suitable for being consumed or not, therefore it needs to be tested before use. The natural mineral water and the packaged drinking water should meet the requirements specified by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Spectro understands the importance of purity of water for human consumption and industrial works. We offer competitive facilities for testing of drinking water, and waste water. We own a well equipped laboratory which possess the most advanced and modernized instruments required for carrying out a complete analysis for water samples used in batteries, petroleum refineries, fermentation industries, food processing industries, cooling towers, etc. The test protocols are strictly in accordance with the specified Standards mentioned by the concerned authorities.

The test samples with their specified standards are mentioned below:

  • Drinking water (WHO, EPA and IS:10500-2012))
  • Packaged drinking water (IS:14543-2004)
  • Natural mineral water (IS:13428-2005)
  • Swimming pool water (IS:3328-1993)
  • Water for construction work (IS:4251-1967)
  • Inland surface water (IS:2296-1982)
  • Reagent grade water (IS:1070-1993)t
  • Boiler water, feed water, condensate for high pressure boilers (IS:10496-1983)

The parameters that we check in water samples are broadly divided into three categories:

Physical Parameters

  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
  • Total Suspended Solids (TSS)
  • Temperature
  • Turbidity
  • Color
  • Odor
  • Taste
Chemical Parameters
  • Acidity and Alkalinity
  • Hardness
  • pH
  • Dissolved Oxygen (DO)
  • Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)
  • Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD)
  • Pesticides
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
  • Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
  • Trichloroethylenes (TCEs) and Trihalomethanes (THMs)
  • Lead, Cadmium, Arsenic, Nitrites, Nitrates and Cyanides content
  • Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Studies (TCLP)
  • Phenolic compounds
  • Ammoniacal Nitrogen
Microbiological Parameters
  • Faecal Coliform
  • Total Coliform
  • Faecal Streptococci
  • E.coli
  • Pseudomonas Aeruginosa
  • Salmonella
  • Toxicity Tests (bio assays and LC 50)
  • Total Plate Count
  • Legionella species
  • Vibrio Cholera
  • Enteroviruss

We can also arrange Radiological testing for alpha and beta activities in water samples from our associate lab as per Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) Guidelines.
