The Rapid Chloride Permeability Test
Corrosion of reinforcing steel due to chloride ingress is one of the most common environmental attacks that lead to the deterioration of concrete structures. Diffusion occurs when the concentration of chloride on the outside of the concrete is greater than on the inside. This results in chloride ions moving through the concrete to the level of the rebar. When this occurs in combination with wetting and drying cycles and in the presence of oxygen, conditions are right for reinforcement corrosion.
The rapid chloride permeability test is being used as a measure of the “permeability” of concrete to chloride ions. The more proper term would be “chloride penetration”. Many highway agencies have adopted the test and it was included in High performance bridge specification. We provide The Rapid Chloride-ion Permeability Test (RCPT) facility. The test is simple to conduct and that can be performed in a short time. Other Permeability tests take weeks or months to complete.
